About Drag Race Logbook Pro

The story behind the cockpit.

Bracket racing is the most data-rich form of motorsport on the planet. Every pass produces a printed time slip with eight numbers on it. The car's data logger sees a hundred more. The track conditions change every round.

For decades, racers have tracked this data in battered notebooks or on clipboards hanging in the trailer. But paper fades, notebooks get lost, and manual spreadsheets are rarely updated consistently.

Philip, our Lead Engineer and a sportsman racer himself, realized that the latest advances in computer vision and machine learning could solve this. "I wanted a tool that let me focus on the tree, not the typing," he says. "By combining NOAA weather data with AI-powered time slip scanning, we could finally get a scientific look at round-to-round consistency."

About the Author

Philip is the lead engineer and founder of Drag Race Logbook Pro. He brings 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep specialization in sports-performance analytics, computer vision, and applied machine learning.

As an active bracket and sportsman racer, Philip has logged hundreds of weekends at NHRA-sanctioned events — giving him first-hand knowledge of the staging lane data problems that Drag Race Logbook Pro solves. He personally designed the multi-variable regression model that powers the ±0.02s ET predictor and the computer vision pipeline behind the AI time slip scanner.

  • Domain expertise: drag racing strategy, bracket dial-in analysis, density altitude math, NHRA rules
  • Technical expertise: computer vision, OCR, ML regression, real-time weather APIs
  • Hands-on experience: 15+ years software engineering · hundreds of race weekends logged

What are the principles behind Drag Race Logbook Pro?

We built this app around four hard rules, and we measure every feature against them.

Photo-first, always

If we can extract a value from a photo, you shouldn't have to type it. Every entry path starts with a camera button. We believe that reducing the friction of data entry is the only way to build a complete racing log.

AI assists, you decide

Every AI extraction is editable, every match is shown with confidence. We tell you when we guessed and let you correct it. You remain the final authority on your run data.

Your data is yours

Export to CSV, Excel, or PDF anytime. No lock-in. No data ransom. If you cancel, you take everything with you. Your performance history is your competitive property.

Built like a tool, not a toy

No popups, no ads in the staging lanes. Hot-flag warnings where they matter. High-contrast monochromatic fonts for readability in bright sunlight. Built for the pits.

Why upgrade to a digital drag racing logbook?

See how Drag Race Logbook Pro replaces the traditional (and broken) methods of tracking performance data.

  • Pen & paper notebook Photograph each page — AI imports every run
  • Retyping every time slip into a spreadsheet Snap the slip — AI fills every field. Never type again.
  • Generic spreadsheet Air-density-corrected ET predictor tuned to YOUR runs
  • Manual weather lookups Auto-fetch from nearest station + Kestrel photo OCR
  • Lost time slips by Sunday Every slip stored with the run, clickable forever
  • Data trapped in one tool One-click CSV / Excel / PDF export anytime

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a special camera or scanner?

No — your phone's regular camera works. The AI handles glare, angle, and low contrast slips. If a slip is genuinely unreadable, every field is also editable manually. We recommend using a vertical top-down angle for the highest OCR accuracy.

What if the AI gets a number wrong?

Every extracted value is briefly highlighted green so you can review it. Tap any field to edit. The AI's accuracy improves on common track-printer formats over time as our models learn from a wider variety of thermal paper textures.

Can I use it without an internet connection?

The dashboard, run list, and edit screens work fully offline. Photo extraction and live weather fetch need a connection — they auto-retry as soon as your device reconnects to a cellular or track-side network.

What about my old paper logbooks?

Use the Logbook Import flow — photograph each page and AI reads every run, every column, into a review grid. Years of paper, digitized in one sitting. Our system recognizes JEGS, NHRA, and custom grid formats automatically.

Is this just for bracket racers?

No — sportsman, super class, and even index racers all benefit. The dial-in field is optional. The ET predictor works on any car with a few logged runs, helping you see performance trends across different event weekends.

How accurate is the ET prediction?

Within ±0.02 seconds on average once you've logged 20+ passes for a car. Accuracy keeps improving as you add runs across different DA / temperature ranges. Our multi-variable regression model is more precise than simple temperature-correction apps.
