Junior dragster racing is its own world — eighth-mile, fixed-class indexes, fast dial-in changes between rounds, and a lot of paperwork for the parent in the trailer. The logbook handles it all: scan the slip, log the round, watch the trend, dial the next pass.
Built around eighth-mile racing
Junior Dragster classes run the 1/8 mile — and the logbook knows it. When you log a run for a Jr car, the form defaults to 1/8 mile distance, the time slip scanner expects 660 as the final ET column, and the trend chart understands that 7.90 means a different thing than 7.90 quarter-mile.
Class-specific defaults: NHRA 0.90 / 7.90 / 8.90 / Pro indexes, IHRA equivalents, and free text for outlaw / NHRDA / regional class structures. Whichever your kid runs, the predictor and the comparison tools handle it.
Fast entry between rounds
Junior racing typically runs 4–6 rounds in a day. The logbook is built for that pace. Race Mode shows the car as a card with the predicted ET right next to the dial-in field. Quick-log a slip in two taps. The form clears for the next round, the dashboard updates the trend chart, and you're back to the staging lanes.
Parents typically run the phone while the racer focuses on tree luck and the lights. The big-touch UI was designed with one-hand operation in mind — useful when one hand is holding a clipboard and the other is on a thermometer.
Index racing support
Junior classes run on fixed indexes. The predictor compares your kid's actual predicted ET to the class index, which tells you exactly how much throttle stop or RPM trim is needed for the upcoming round:
- NHRA 0.90 — 8.5 sec index for newer racers
- NHRA 7.90 / 8.90 / Pro — class indexes for advancing levels
- IHRA Junior — equivalent index racing
- Outlaw / heads-up classes — free-form, no index
Tracking improvement as the kid grows
Junior dragsters are about development. The trend chart over a season shows what every junior racer's parent already knows in their gut: the reaction times tighten, the dial-in deltas shrink, the consistency builds. Now you have the data to point at when you're explaining why a kid earned a trip to a national event.
Per-car PBs are tracked, so the move from a 0.90 car to a 7.90 car (typically when the kid hits 13 or 14) gets a clean handoff. Old runs stay on the old car's history; new car starts fresh. The predictor knows the difference.
Weather + DA matters here too
A 6.5 second junior car responds to density altitude the same way an 11 second bracket car does — proportionally faster in dense air, slower in thin air. With 6 rounds in a day and conditions changing across the afternoon, weather tracking is what keeps the dial-in accurate from round to round.
The auto-fetched DA pulls from the same NWS / Open-Meteo sources as the adult logbook. Kestrel photo capture works the same way. A junior parent typically logs DA on every round without ever opening a separate weather app.
Parent-friendly photo archive
Every slip, every weather screen, every podium photo can live in the logbook for the racer to look back on. Years from now when they're running Super Comp or Top Sportsman, the junior career is right there in the same account. The photo archive is unlimited on Pro plans.
Example: how it works in practice
Given
Your kid runs NHRA 7.90 in a junior dragster. Saturday's first round ran 7.93 on a 7.91 dial. Conditions are getting cooler into the afternoon — DA dropped 600 ft since round one.
Result
Open Race Mode. The predicted ET for the junior at the new DA is 7.88. Round 1's 7.93 was at higher DA; the predictor projects the car is now about 0.05s quicker in the cooler air. Dial 7.89 with a 0.01 margin, or 7.88 if you're feeling brave. The card surfaces the 7.93/7.91 prior round next to it for context. Saved as 1/8 mile, no MPH (junior slip doesn't print one).
Frequently asked questions about junior dragster
Does the time slip scanner work on junior dragster slips?
Yes. Junior slips are typically eighth-mile-only and often skip the MPH column. The scanner handles both. Whatever the slip prints, the scanner captures.
Can multiple kids share an account, or do they need their own?
One account can hold multiple cars — and most parents put each kid's car under the same account. The predictor and PBs are per-car, so each kid's racing stays separate even though it's under one login.
Will it understand 0.90 / 7.90 / 8.90 / Pro class racing?
Yes. The class field on each car is free text and the predictor handles any index. The comparison view shows predicted ET against the index value you set.
Is this safe for kids to use?
The logbook is used by parents, not kids, in our experience. There's no chat, no public profile, no social features. The data is private to the account.
Can I print a season summary for end-of-year banquet?
Yes. CSV / Excel / PDF export available on every plan. Filter to one car, set the date range to the season, hit export. The filename auto-tags the car name and date so the file lands as something like "junior-dragster-2026-season.csv".
